There are many ways to use punctuation and it's up to you as a writer which punctuation marks to use or sentence types: simple, compound, complex (see my lesson on punctuation for more details ). It's all about making sure your writing makes sense to the reader and you've got your point across.

2. Hi Joanne (need a capital to begin sentence/greeting. Don't need a punctuation after but you can if you want to.)
How are you Joanne? (spell my name right!) I came to London to visit my brother. He told me the bad news about you.
or I came to London to visit. My brother told me the bad news about you. You left London. You went to Leeds and you're living there. I really wanted to see you in London, at Westminster College. I am studying on your website. (always use a capital for I)
